It had been a hot minute since we’d ventured out as a group to delve into some of Sydney’s best food, so it was obvious our Foodie Friday segment needed to make a comeback quick-smart. This first stop back after a long hiatus couldn’t have been better spent than with our homies at Mister Gee Burger Truck.
The burger craze has been rife in recent times, with new businesses and pop-ups setting up camp in an array of spots throughout the city, selling their own variations of classics and attempting new creations in the hope to draw people in.
Mister Gee have slotted in at the head of this movement for all the right reasons though.
The Inner Western suburbs are tapping into this style of food, but the burger truck has been serving their side of the block in Haberfield for a long time, and they provide that hype and deliver consistently each week. Their setup at 315 Parramatta Rd, in the vacant Platinum carwash leaves them with a lot of open space, which they need, due to the masses of people that are lining up to cop the menu on each night they’re open. The wait however, is accompanied by smooth hip-hop tunes that generate a good atmosphere among patrons and those serving. It’s no brand new concept, but it works because it’s not over the top – it’s a dope place to hang out and eat, put simply.
Of course, there’s always the prize that you receive at the end of such a wait. In comes the food…
We were gifted with a classic Gee burger back by popular demand, aptly called ‘The Stoners Revenge’. Packed with an all-star combination of ingredients, consisting of a grass-fed beef patty (or the option of a double), triple American cheese, malt pickled onions, house dill pickles, salt and vinegar chips, streaky bacon and an interesting home curation of ‘stoner sauce’ – the ingredients of which Gee would not disclose. No need for conversation though, when you’ve got one of these in your mouth.
On the side we have the truffle fries, or the ‘dirty fries’ as they’re known. Damn sure nothing dirty about the meal in general, and although it boasts food to widen the waistline, it’s still made with a lot of fresh produce and cooked to perfection, so the greasy or uneasy feelings just aren’t there once you finish eating which is a massive bonus.
One more side note – the baklava shakes are bang on. These provide the perfect amount of sweet and cold to accompany the rest of the meal pack, and it all just falls into place as a dinner done right.
You’d best not sleep on this spot, not only will you miss your place in the queue, but more importantly you won’t discover all the fantastic creations this crew have up their sleeves. We’re going to be teaming up with Mister Gee in the coming months for something special as well, so best keep your eyes peeled for that.
Big ups Gee, and everyone involved with this amazing joint!
Mister Gee Burger Truck operates from 6:30pm – 10pm from Thursday to Saturday. Located at 315 Parramatta Rd, Haberfield.
